The federal government shutdown fiasco affects 23 percent of the federal workforce, according to the:

  • Congress Budget Office (CBO)

  • Office of Mgt. & Budget (OMB)

The other 77% is earmarked as “essential” services.

  • Federal courts

  • Social Security and Medicare benefits

  • Military, federal law enforcement, border patrol

  • US Postal Service

  • Air traffic control

  • US Passport Agency

  • Veterans Administration

  • Air Traffic Control
