Measles outbreaks are back
On Wednesday, the CDC warned that measles is back.
The CDC is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
It establishes regulations and policies to prevent diseases from entering or spreading within America.
So far, this year, the CDC reports:
1900 confirmed cases, and
outbreaks are skyrocketing in 43 states.
Illegal immigrants are bringing diseases like measles into America.
Measles is a viral disease marked by an eruption of red circular spots.
Three in 1,000 people who contract measles will die.
In some people, it weakens the immune system, increasing the risk of pneumonia, a lung infection.
In March 2000, the CDC declared measles eradicated in the U.S. due to vaccination.
