In the first, Fox News sued LA County Commissioners and its registrar, Dean Logan, for public records of its employees with Smartmatic.
The case was filed on Election Day, Nov. 8th, 2022, and remains in legal limbo.
Fox News sought unredacted communications and financial records related to Los Angeles County's relationship with Smartmatic.
The primary categories of records requested by Fox News include:
Direct Communications & Messaging
Internal and external emails, text messages, and instant messaging communications between Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan (and County elections staff) and Smartmatic executives and representatives.
Missing or unredacted text conversation threads between Logan and company leadership where Fox argued previous County disclosures contained unexplained gaps.
Gifts, Travel, and Hospitality Disclosures
Expense reports, itineraries, calendar entries, and financial receipts concerning travel, meals, accommodations, lodging, and gifts allegedly provided to Logan or other County election officials by Smartmatic or its affiliates.
Contract Negotiations and Procurement Files
Records, internal evaluations, scoring rubrics, and communications tied to the negotiation, bidding, and awarding of the $282 million Voting Solutions for All People (VSAP) contract and subsequent enhancement work orders.
Financial and Payment Records
Invoices, billing documentation, and financial transfer records tracking County disbursements to Smartmatic, which Fox sought to evaluate against allegations concerning corporate spending and financial management.
This LA case links to federal criminal charges of bribery and money laundering.
The case is 24-criminal-20343.
It is about to be dismissed on Nov. 17th because prosecutors failed to include conspiracy charges against:

Federal prosecutors in the Florida case have ignored a key piece of evidence in the New York records case below:
In his Dec. 18th, 2023 deposition, Dean Logan describes his nine-day vacation with his wife, Shirley, to Taiwan and the Maldives starting on July 10th, 2019.
Smartmatic paid for it, including first-class airfare.
According to the Justice Department, the $3.6 million in bribes paid to Dean and Shirley Logan started on July 22nd, 2019.

The deposition can be subpoenaed and filed as evidence in the LA records and Florida criminal bribery and money laundering case.
However, the attorneys for Fox News and the Justice Department have failed to.
It is as if they want to lose their cases.
